The Via ferrata of the Devil
The via ferrata du Diable combines 7 independent sections of different difficulties (easy to very difficult).
Supervision by a professional is recommended.
Description
The total length of the loop is 3760 m and varies from 6 to 8 hours. It is imperative to respect the direction of the itineraries.
If the seven sections of Le Diable have such evocative names, it is perhaps because the quality of their routes deserves to be included in the bible of ferratists. One thing is certain: you will spend a day in paradise with the 3,760 meters of this surprising and magnificent via "en boucle".
Strategic lock of the passage to Italy, the chain of the five Esseillon forts has been watching over the Mont-Cenis pass since 1832. Facing the Vanoise National Park, between the Victor-Emmanuel fort and the Marie-Thérèse Redoubt, a large cirque opens up and is covered by the via ferrata of the Diable.
It is one of the most beautiful and largest via ferrata in the Alps. The landscapes in the gorges of the Arc are grandiose; the atmosphere is wild (especially in the off-season or in winter when there is no one there); you climb in the middle of swallows, swifts or tichodromes. The routes are varied, ascents, descents, crossings, with many footbridges of different types and the landscape near a waterfall and in the forts of Esseillon. It is certainly the major tourist equipment of the Haute Maurienne in summer: a must for children or beginner climbers passing by! Good climbers will be able to immerse themselves in the beauty of the landscape.
