Is a city dweller's view of agriculture the same as a countryman's? In its play "Les vaches ont des prénoms," Compagnie du Chien Jaune recounts its encounter with Maurienne farmer Jean-Philippe Viallet.

Description

There’s no denying that the countryside is something else! In the countryside, we crave authenticity—old folks on tractors, local produce, fireplaces, and rustic charm. But what do we really know about farming and the lives of farmers? Sometimes all we have are childhood memories… Every now and then, we hear angry farmers’ voices on the radio. Village names are spelled backward on signs, and the prices of milk and vegetables are rising on supermarket shelves… But who remembers that cows have names?

Created by Compagnie du Chien Jaune.
Editing and direction: Valérie Zipper
