6 - Cross-country - Red - Le Pont du Diable

When you arrive at the Devil's Bridge, remember to look far ahead, otherwise shivers are guaranteed! It is not for nothing that this place is a via ferrata site!

Description

The first part of the descent is on a pretty, sometimes rough single track that takes you to the Pont du Diable via the Esseillon forts.
Once you've reached this low point on the route, you'll have to climb back up again along the Chemin du Petit Bonheur, which runs alongside the road in the forest as far as Bramans. Finally, you reach Aussois via a climb of around 250m D+. Without being very difficult, this route requires a little physical fitness and a little technical baggage for the descent.
The Devil's Bridge overhangs the bed of the Arc by more than 100m. Legend has it that the builder of the bridge, who was in difficulty at the time, called on the devil to complete the work in time. In exchange, the Devil would take the soul of the first person to cross the bridge. But the devil was fooled: the first person to cross the bridge was a... goat!

Location

The route starts at Aussois La Croix (Aussois exit towards Sardières), with parking nearby.
During the summer season, you can take the S52 bus (Modane - Aussois - Val Cenis) and get off at the "Le Centre" stop; the bus is equipped with a bicycle trailer every day except Saturday.
